While change is never easy
one of the hallmarks of a good nurse is the ability to be flexible
and the Department of Nursing at the University of Central Oklahoma
is no exception to this rule. In the past, students were admitted
in the Spring semester and began their clinical nursing courses in
the Fall of the Junior year. Students are now admitted in the
Spring and in the Fall and begin their clinical nursing courses in
the second semester of their Sophomore semester. This new change in
the curriculum allows for an increased number of graduates (from 80
per year to 120 per year) and gives the nursing student additional
time in the clinical setting. The dual admission allows class sizes
to remain small so the student benefits from a decreased faculty to
student ratio, yet increase the number of nursing graduates to meet
the nursing shortage. This is an exciting new change and the
faculty in the Nursing Department is embracing this challenge!
The
Career Ladder program is designed with the practicing nurse
in mind. Courses are offered off campus allowing the non
traditional student the flexibility necessary to work and go to
school. These courses are taught in the evenings at either Integris
Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City or Rose State College in Midwest
City, OK.
