There are a multitude of nursing organizations in which the student and graduate nurse could become involved. Sigma Theta Tau International is the honor society for nursing and bachelor's nursing students are inducted into this organization in the Spring semester of their Senior year. Membership in the University of Central Oklahoma Student Nurses' Association (UCOSNA) is open to all nursing students. Monthly meetings are held on campus. The Fellowship of Christian Nurses is a student led group at the University of Central Oklahoma. Membership is open to all nursing and pre-nursing students. The Oklahoma Nursing Student Association strives to provide opportunities that complement education, aid in the development of future nursing leaders and act as a resource for professional networking. Students are encouraged to become members of the local SNA chapter and develop the leadership skills that are important to the nurse who is educated at the bachelor's level. The National Student Nurses' Association has over 45,000 members in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This student led organization has two non voting consultants who are appointed by the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing. Two conferences are held each year where students come together to participate in leadership and career development activities, listen to renowned nursing leaders, hear about job opportunities and network with hundreds of other students. |
